Match Reports
Galway League U 12 V Clare Cascaders, Ennistymon

Maree U12 girls had their first match today against a more experienced team, Clare Cascaders from Ennistymon. Maree played exceptionally well in the first quarter with Sacra Mannion in for the jump ball. The Clare side started strong with two quick baskets from Katie Considine before Sacra responded for Maree. Aoife Burke for Maree stole the ball and scored from a full court lay up bringing Maree back into the game. Rachel O'Donaghue scored another basket for Maree but the Clare team came right back at them. Maree's Aisling Officer, Laura Shivnan and Lara Whelehan played good defense to keep Cascaders's scoreline low and another basket from Sacra Mannion ended the first quarter with even score of eight all.
Maree won the second quarter with a low score of two to zero. Maree played great defense with cousins Rachel and Ciara Walsh claiming many rebounds for Maree, and Denise Moran, Amanda Forde and Isabel Monaghan making a huge impact on the Cascaders fast break. Sinead Connolly made a great basket from play ending the first half with Maree ahead on the scoreline 10- 8.
The third quarter was a very balanced match with both sides scoring 2 baskets each. Maree's coming from an offensive rebound from Aisling Officer and a fast break from Sacra Mannion. Maree led by 2 points going into the final quarter.
Cascaders' Katie Considine stepped up the pace scoring four baskets from a very well organised fast break, exposing the Maree girls' lack of experience. Two further baskets for Clare gave them a ten point lead. Amanda Forde and Isabel Monaghan gradually started to burn rubber and stop Considine in her tracks but unfortunately were unable to recover. Isabel scored one free throw after being fouled, and another basket from Sacra saw the game finish with Maree 17 to Clare Cascaders 24.

All 12 Maree girls had a great game. A 5th quarter was played to give all 20 players on today's panel some court time. A great party was had afterwards for the two teams, thanks to the parents.
